We are seeking a dynamic person to lead our Day Treatment Team and co-lead our Community
Counselling Team during a 14-16 month leave of absence. This position promises a variety of interesting
tasks with no day being exactly the same. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, have experience
in substance use treatment and experience leading staff teams. The addiction program continues to
grow and so there is a potential for ongoing employment within the Addiction Services team.
The innovative two week day treatment program is for adults who are at the early to moderate stage of problematic substance use. The Day Treatment program is delivered in partnership with other health providers and includes complementary approaches including yoga and mindfulness.

The Community Counselling service includes; individual counselling, group counselling, education sessions and support to significant others. Counselling is focused on problematic substance use, problem gambling, gaming and internet use. Both services are provided in Waterloo Region, with Day Treatment also provided in Wellington County. Key responsibilities include:
1. Lead, develop and support the Day Treatment and Community Counselling teams including all
aspects of recruitment, on-boarding, coaching, clinical supervision, staff support and development
(includes staff, students and volunteers).
2. Overall operation of the program including; program development, evaluation, logistics,
documentation, privacy, adhering to organization/ funder guidelines, health and safety, and
integration with other House of Friendship addiction services
3. Support the provision of evidence informed, timely, accessible and effective service
4. Contribute to continuous improvement and the successful implementation of any change initiatives.
5. Develop and maintain relationships with other service providers to increase opportunities for
innovation and positively impact outcomes.

Contract (potential for ongoing

Your skills and experience include:
1. University degree in Social Work/Counselling
2. Registration as Registered Psychotherapist or Registered Social Worker, in good standing, with the
ability to provide clinical supervision
3. Advanced knowledge of, and training in, problematic substance use and recovery
4. Familiarity with evidence informed practices including motivational interviewing, stage matched
interventions, CBT
5. Demonstrated skill and experience in leading and developing team, with very strong leadership,
team building and decision-making skills required
6. Excellent interpersonal, emotional intelligence and resilience skills.
7. Previous experience and advanced skills working in a professional counselling role
8. Experience in collaboration, program development and program implementation
9. Knowledge of complementary therapies is an asset (ex. yoga, mindfulness, nutrition)
10. Commitment to holistic treatment model and strength based approach is required
11. Knowledge of local community agencies and resources is preferred
12. Commitment to understand and uphold the mission and values of House of Friendship is expected
13. Experience or strong interest in working with diverse populations including people from various
cultural backgrounds and income levels, and sensitivity to their needs.

Working Conditions:
? 37.5 hours per week, typically Monday - Friday, daytime hours with some evening work as required
by the program.
? Travel throughout Waterloo-Wellington. A Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle is required.
? Working with and encountering participants who may be under the influence of alcohol and/or
other drugs and/or experiencing symptoms of mental illness can be expected
