The Queen Street Commons Café, located at 43 Queen Street South in Kitchener, is the kind of gathering place that is central to community vitality.
All are welcome in the Café. We host this space with the help of volunteers, inviting people into reciprocal relationships and working to build respect, inclusion and conversation together.
We invite people to enjoy our affordable, vegetarian home-style meals, snacks, desserts, and fresh-roasted coffee. Prices are set low because we have created a space where people can come together on equal footing. By offering food that is affordable, by not requiring that people make a purchase to be in the space, we have a café where all are welcome, no matter their income.
The Café is also a place that provides opportunities for music, gathering, movie nights and conversation. We welcome community events that help make the place come to life. Our community calendar lists the public events that are held at the café. Besides formal events, there are many small groups and activities that happen as people learn together how to build this common space.
We welcome volunteers at the café – if you are interested, please call 519-749-9177 ext. 1.
The café offers vegetarian fare, including dips, pizzas, soups, salads, and daily lunch specials. The wide assortment of freshly baked cookies, muffins, squares & cakes includes dairy, wheat & sugar-free options, as well as more decadent choices. Fair trade organic and single origin coffees are roasted in-house, and organic herbal teas are served. It is our hope that whole foods produced locally can be accessible and affordable to those with limited income.
