What is Career Counselling?
Career counselling is similar in nature to traditional counseling, however, the focus is generally on issues such as career exploration, career change, personal career development and other career related issues.
Career counselling is the process of helping individuals select a path and make a plan to help them to get into the job they want. A career counsellor helps individuals get into a career that is suited to their aptitude, personality, interest and skills.
Career Counselling at The Working Centre
The employment counselors at The Working Centre help individuals with their career path. We help people to make decisions and plans about their career choices and help to train individuals in job search techniques - from the basics of resumes, cover letters, and interviews, to more in-depth strategies such as networking and creating a portfolio.
At The Working Centre we take a holistic approach to career counselling, where we walk through the individual journey, make an individual plan, and look at the situation, challenges and hopes of each individual. We recognize that non-career related factors such as financial challenges, housing, and physical and mental health can have a major impact on the job search. As such, we work with the whole person and look to walk the full journey with people towards the kind of life they want to live.
The Working Centre is often thought of as the place where people go when they don’t know where else to go. This is because our team does its best to meet and understand the whole individual, and respond to each circumstance with understanding and respect.
Making work choices can be a very focused task. It is best to book an appointment to discuss this further with an Employment Counsellor. Bring some of your ideas and research to your first appointment, to help the Employment Counsellor understand the work you have done so far.
