Job Posting: Supportive Housing and Outreach Worker at The Working Centre

Are you someone who is attracted to the philosophy and action of The Working Centre?

There are a variety of Supportive Housing Worker and St John’s Kitchen Outreach Worker positions available;

  • Supportive Housing Worker is centered in our Supportive Housing locations and includes the work of helping people to navigate their daily living in communal living environments.
  • St John’s Kitchen and Outreach offers hospitality and problem solving for a wide range of people who are experiencing homelessness or who are at risk of homelessness.  We focus on welcoming people with generosity and kindness, work to strengthen access to community supports, and we problem-solve the many complexities people face – in our drop-in space and in the community (encampments, motels, shelter, and housing).

Housing and Outreach workers respond to the support needs of people who are street involved, often dealing with the complexities of substance use, lack of affordable housing, mental health issues, and challenges navigating complex systems.  The work is highly relationship-based, always challenging and changing, and responds to the needs of the people we support.

Housing and Outreach Workers are responsive, truly enjoy being with people, have a good understanding of collaboration and team work, and are not set on following standard routines in their work.  The position requires taking a trauma informed approach, and working from a philosophy of harm reduction.  Attention to detail and follow-through is very important, as we navigate income supports, healthcare, housing and legal issues. Outreach Workers form a responsive group, collaborating strongly with other agencies and within the projects of The Working Centre.

The Working Centre is a dynamic and highly responsive organization.  Co-workers come from all walks of life, a variety of cultural backgrounds, and an eclectic mix of age groups.  We are constantly learning and are challenged in our work. We offer many flexible yet anchored work roles and a work environment that allows you to do meaningful, respectful and good work.

Before applying, take a look at this link to information about our salary policy https://www.theworkingcentre.org/sites/default/files/salary-policy.pdf. This work is more than a job – it is about committed community work in a collaborative environment. Position starts at $20.12/hour; generous benefit package after 3 months for full-time work.

If you are interested in being considered, please send your resume and a cover letter to working@theworkingcentre.org or through Indeed.

Tell us specifically why you are interested in the outreach role and why you are interested in the Working Centre.
