Our Focus

Making Access to Transportation Affordable
Volunteers and staff refurbish bikes to sell at affordable prices.

Serving as a Learning and Community Hub
We create an inclusive and safe meeting point for the local cycling community. We train diverse folks on bike maintenance, collaborate with local cycling partners, and participate in local cycling advocacy and events.

Building Relationships Across DTK
Our team of staff and volunteers are enthusiasts who connect with community members, customers, partners, share their passion, and create a supportive environment in the core of downtown Kitchener (DTK).

Bike Repairs and Sales

Book a bike stand appointment
We book bike stands for folks to use with support from our staff and volunteers.

  • $5 for the first 50 minutes, $5 for every additional 50 minutes.
  • We suggest booking 3-hour time slots ($15/booking) to ensure you are not bumped for another booking.
  • If someone does not use their full 3 hours, they will only pay for the time they used.
  • No experience is necessary; we will walk you through what you need to do! You will also have access to all the tools you will need, plus expert guidance from our team. You will need to pay for any used or new parts you end up needing to get your bike on the road again.
  • To book a stand email [email protected] with subject line: ‘Bike Stand Booking’ and we will work with you to find a date and time that works for you.

Walk-in shop stand ($5/50 min)
We have one bike stand for walk-in DIY repairs. It can be used for 50 minutes without an appointment. If you need more time, you can book a stand or keep working on your bike until another walk-in arrives.

Used Bikes for Sale
We receive all kinds of donations of used bikes from across the city. If you want to donate a bike, read our section on Donations. Used bikes are available for sale and are often in the $60 – $150 range. Children’s bikes are $5 – $25. Bikes for sale are available on a first-come first-serve basis.

In the Community

  • Come find us at the Kitchener Market on Saturdays!
  • Look for us at a variety of events during the summer months as we promote cycling skills and bike maintenance.

Volunteers are at the Heart of Our Work

Volunteers are the heart of all our projects at The Working Centre. We emphasize belonging through volunteering opportunities, work and community service placements, which bring a diverse team of volunteers to our spaces each day to share their skills and learn new ones.

Whether they have years of bike experience, or are beginning their learning with us, they have a place at Recycle Cycles! Volunteers breakdown donated bikes for used parts, they fix and refurbish bikes, they work with customers to help them fix their own bikes, they share their knowledge with other volunteers, they organize used and new bike parts and keep the shop welcoming for everyone to use.

Email us if you want to volunteer, or join our monthly volunteer orientation to see for yourself! [email protected]

Donations

Our work is largely run through donations from the community. Here are some important ways that people can support Recycle Cycles:

  • Donate a Bike (or more), Parts and/or Tools: give another life to your used bikes and parts by donating them to our shop. We accept individual donations during our operating hours directly to our shop at 256 King St. E. in Kitchener. We also accept tools and bike gear (i.e. lights and other accessories). If you have a larger number of bikes (5 or more), please connect with us over email before you deliver them: [email protected].
  • Pay-it-Forward: A great way to directly support accessible and affordable cycling culture, is to donate to our ‘pay it forward jar’. Ask our team in the shop how is works!
  • Sponsor a Bike Maintenance Training or Cycling Education Workshop in the community: Covering the cost of running a workshop, led by our experienced staff and volunteers is a lasting and incredibly meaningful gift. Email or ask us in the shop for more details!
