The Working Centre Tours
With over 30 projects focused on housing, unemployment, poverty, meal service, harm reduction and more, The Working Centre operates from a series of places of community in downtown Kitchener. Join us as we showcase some of the locations that are noteworthy in our work.
Monthly Community Walking Tours
Every last Tuesday of each month, 11am-1:30pm.
Interested in learning about the impacts, challenges, and relationships of The Working Centre projects? We look forward to welcoming you at our free monthly walking tours, on the last Tuesday of each month.
This 3km guided tour will introduce you some of the spaces that host the 30+ projects that make up The Working Centre.
You’ll tour spaces such as our:
- Job Search Resource Centre, which offers employment strategies and financial problem solving to over 1,500 individuals/year.
- St. John’s Kitchen & Making Home at 97 Victoria which offers housing, medical and dental support while serving nutritious meals to over 400 people/weekday for the past 40 years
- Community Tools & Enterprises which offer skill building, shared access to tools, and a place to gather. You’ll tour our community cafés, bike repair shop, and furniture thrift store
About the Community Walking Tour:
- Tours will begin at 11am at the Job Search Resource Centre, located at 58 Queen Street South
- We will be walking for approximately 2 hours; around 3km total. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes!
- Please bring any weather-dependent items you might need as we will be walking outside, rain or shine (e.g., water, umbrella, hat, sunscreen, coat etc.).
- All sites are wheelchair and walker accessible, however we will be walking and standing for 2-2.5 hours. If you have any accessibility questions, please feel free to reach out to us at [email protected].
- The tour will finish around 1:30pm at Queen Street Commons Café, located at 43 Queen Street South (across the street from our starting point).
- Donations are always appreciated but not expected. There is no cost in attending this tour.
Tours open 3-4 months in advance and space is limited. If no dates are currently available, please check back at a later time!
Community Partners and Corporate Tours

We offer:
- A 1-hour tour of the St. John’s Kitchen, where medical supports, meal service, and community building support over 2,000 people daily.
- A 2.5-hour tour of The Working Centre, including the Job Search Resource Centre, our Community Tools & Enterprises, and St. John’s Kitchen/Making Home at 97 Victoria. This fulsome tour will dive into The Working Centre’s history, community needs, and the ways that TWC aims to walk alongside people to support them through poverty, addictions, unemployment, and more.
- Tour + 2-hour volunteering experience at St. John’s Kitchen, where you will engage community in meal service and connection.
- Tour + Volunteering + Lunch & Learn, where you’ll participate in a tour about The Working Centre’s projects, volunteer at St. John’s Kitchen, and debrief your experience and learn more about a theme on today’s most pressing issues with Joe Mancini, TWC Director.
