Get Ready for School™, Part Time

The Role:

Working in the Get Ready for School™ program provides you the opportunity to encourage children through purposeful play and instruction in a rich learning environment. You will gain new skills and valuable experience as you leverage the training and implement this reputable, high-quality, research-based program.

In this role, you will work in a classroom setting with 20 children, ages 3 to 4, preparing them for successful entry into Kindergarten. You will be one member of a four-person team of Instructors and work collaboratively to implement the program. You will lead games, singing and learning activities, with a focus on developing the children's early literacy skills. You will follow prescribed lesson plans, using the training you received, specific materials and instructional practices. You will be inspired as you see the exciting growth and development of these young learners, knowing that you have had a positive impact.

- Short-Term, Day-Time Position
- Tuesday and Thursday morning and/or afternoon opportunities
- 5-10 hours per week depending on number of sites at which you work
- January to June 2020, with training in December 2019

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work well in a team environment
- Attend and actively participate in training courses
- Follow the prescribed lesson plans
- Prepare for lessons by reviewing and following the manual
- Assist with room set-up and clean-up
- Work with the children in a group and on an individual basis

Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience:
- At least one year of experience working or volunteering with children
- Skilled in encouraging and building up young children
- Experience working with diverse populations including people from various cultural backgrounds, income levels, and family dynamics, with empathy and respect
- Proven organizational and communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills, able to work as part of a team
- Experience working with volunteers is an asset
- Standard First Aid with CPR-C
- WHMIS 2015 for Workers Certificate
- Health & Safety Awareness Training for Workers
- ECE Diploma is an asset

Hourly Wage: $16.00
