Social Support Worker - Consumption Treatment Services (CTS)

The Social Support Worker is part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary CTS staff team. Using a client-centered, harm reduction approach, the Social Support Worker will provide brief counselling and support, case management, and advocacy, in addition to providing direct referrals to wrap-around health and social services both internal and external to the CTS.

Social Support Workers will:

Greet clients, assess eligibility for the CTS, initiate intake into the service and orient to the service and space.
Support a welcoming, non-judgmental relaxed space for clients.
Provide one-on-one support and advocacy, using a harm reduction and trauma informed approach, to people who use drugs.
Provide brief counselling (e.g., motivational interviewing).
Provide assistance with emergency response as-needed.
Work with other CTS staff to maintain flow of clients into and out of each client area of the CTS.
Complete documentation as required.
Maintain accurate data and information.
Participate in evaluation processes related to the CTS and people accessing the services.
Work as a collaborative member of the CTS Team.

Qualifications and skills required:

Demonstrated experience working with people who use drugs and people who are vulnerable, living in poverty, and/or experiencing homelessness
Post-secondary education in the social services field or a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.
Experience working with people who use drugs is required
Experience working with racialized populations, Indigenous peoples, women who engage in sex work, prisoners/ex-prisoners, people with mental health challenges, and people who have experienced trauma, is an asset.
Knowledge and understanding of substance use and overdose response
Ability to work collaboratively within and across teams
Understanding of Anti-oppression principles and ability to work effectively with people of various cultural, age and economic backgrounds
Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
Ability to work days, evenings, and/or weekends as required
