We are looking for an energetic person who is committed to strength-based, person focused care to join our team as an Addiction Counsellor. This person will work as part of the staff treatment team within our Men's Residential Treatment program.
**This is a full-time, permanent position with paid vacation time, sick time and personal days. Permanent, salaried employees are also eligible for Extended Health Care Benefits and a Defined Contribution Group Pension. Hours are typically Sunday to Thursday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Work location in Waterloo, moving to Cambridge July 2019. **
Your key responsibilities include:
1. Welcoming, intake, admission and discharge
2. Individual counselling
3. Group counselling
4. Monitoring the residence
5. Documentation
6. Working as an effective member of the staff treatment team
7. Participation and involvement in other program activities
8. Work in a safe and healthy manner
Your skills and experience include:
1. University Degree in Counselling/Social Work with professional certification/registration is required (RSW, RP)
2. Experience in individual and group counselling with men
3. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required
4. Ability to assess complex situations and make appropriate decisions independently and as part of a team
5. Sensitivity to and knowledge of issues relating to and impacting on men
6. Knowledge of substance abuse and recovery issues
7. Previous experience in a residential treatment/residential setting is desirable
8. Current standard first aid certificate or willingness to obtain at hiring
9. Experience working within a non-profit and/or social services environment preferred

11. Ability to work effectively with people from various abilities, life situations and cultural backgrounds
12. Commitment to understand and uphold the mission and values of House of Friendship is expected
