GROW’s New Gardens

GROW’s Native Plant and Butterfly Garden welcomes volunteers and visitors to the garden with a naturalized area of reintroduced native herbs and butterfly-attracting plants, including coneflowers, liatris, and sunflowers. Colourful and rich in pollen, the new gardens provide breeding and eating grounds for more insects and butterflies.

The new Healing Herb Garden consists of medicinally significant species, whose roots, leaves, and flowers are helpful in fighting common and chronic illnesses. The following are some of the healing herbs found in our garden:

  • St John’s Wort ~ flowers used to treat depression
  • Boneset ~ stimulates immune system against flu-like fevers
  • Raspberry Leaf ~ birth preparative and digestive remedy
  • Motherwort ~ a relaxant and cardiac tonic
  • Hyssop ~ treats infections, congestion, and coughs
  • Echinacea ~ strengthens immune system
