The Working Centre has bought a building in downtown Kitchener where it plans to build 19 “super-affordable” apartments for new Canadians.
With a federal grant of almost $3 million, the Working Centre was able to buy the building at 54-44 Queen St. S. in November. The project also received a donation of $60,000 from Trinity United, a downtown church that had hoped to redevelop its downtown property with affordable housing.
Work to renovate the upper two floors into 15 bachelor apartments will start shortly, to have the units occupied by next November.
