FEATURED ARTISTS:

Bashar Lulu Jabbour
Performing: Poetry
Bio: Bashar Lulu Jabbour (He/Him) is an immigrant poet! He uses the mundane to give you a glimpse of the complexities of leaving one home for another. Bashar is a storyteller, and his stories are deeply personal. He is a nationally competing poet, finishing 5th (team) & 6th (individual) in Canada, and he has performed his poetry throughout the Region and the country. His debut book will be released in 2017. You can find him at facebook.com/basharlulujabbour.

Janice Jo Lee
Performing: Music & Poetry
Bio: Janice Jo Lee, aka Sing Hey, is a Korean-Canadian musician, poet and theatre artist from Kitchener, on Haldimand Treaty territory. She is passionate about building flourishing communities based in justice and joy through art. Lee is a hard femme queer radical and on stage is known for being disarmingly hilarious, off-the-cuff and fearlessly honest. She is interested in the question: “What is my responsibility to my ancestors and my community as a storyteller?” She is the founding artistic director of the KW Poetry Slam and has been a featured performer at every major poetry slam in Canada. Lee was the City of Kitchener’s Artist in Residence in 2015. Her music has been played nationally on CBC radio and she has facilitated over one hundred workshops on storytelling, songwriting and activism. In Fall 2017 Lee will be directing the MT Space’s Young Company for the Impact Theatre Festival, and will release her third studio album Ancestor Song, and a documusical about her journey titled The Legend of Sing Hey.

No Discernable Key (NDK)
Performing: Folk Music
Bio: This four piece Mennonite band (featuring vocals and guitar, mandolin, violin, accordion) will add a homespun flavour to the evening by playing a rousing set of foot stompin’ Canadian folk music. At the request of the ShamRose , the performers (Jim Bender, Fred Martin, Dave Neufeld, Dwight Steinman,) will share a bit about the geographical region that inspired the tunes that they are covering.

Manatee
Performing: Improvised Jazz
Bio: Manatee is an improvising ensemble that mixes wilds sounds, danceable beats, massive horn lines and audiences as closely as possible! The group uses hand signals to negotiate their way through improvised pieces of music and invites audiences to control their music by learning and making those same signals.
