Each day, St. John's Kitchen feeds approximately 300 people. Only because of the many volunteers at St. John's
Kitchen does this wonderful project succeed. Volunteers are needed for:
- Set-up of room in morning
- Food preparation
- Serving on food line
- Kitchen clean-up
- Dishwashing
- Wall washing

- Floor washing
- Window washing
- Bathrooms
- Outside cleanup
- Coffee pots

The kitchen offers a practical learning environment, where volunteers make all the meals
for Queen Street Commons from scratch using fresh whole foods. Volunteers are needed for:
- Kitchen Help
Duties include:
- food preparation for the café, gaining food safety training
- baking breads and desserts
- possibility to help with outdoor, wood-fired bake oven (summer)
- gain experience in operating large-scale kitchen erquipment

Queen Street Commons is a volunteer-run café at 43 Queen St. South that offers a local,
organic, vegetarian menu, community events, music nights, and a unique gift shop. We are looking for:
- Customer and Food Service volunteers
Duties include:
- handling cash/sales of café and gift shop items
- Taking orders and handling customer inquiries
- Making coffee and specialty coffees
- Food-Prep volunteers
Duties include:
- preparing light meals, salads, and sandwiches in the café
- Serving food to customers, presentation of food
- Making coffee and specialty drinks
- Kitchen Help/Runner Volunteers
Duties include:
- Bussing tables, dishwashing
- Maintaining café displays, pricing items, making café signs
- Cart prepared foods from Maurita’s Kitchen to the café
- Helping distribute promotional materials

Times: Mondays and Fridays from 8:30am to 5:00pm, Tuesdays to Thursdays from 8:30am-8:00pm, and Saturdays from 10:00am to 2:00pm.

Recycle Cycles is a bicycle resource centre which provides inexpensive, reconditioned bicycles for
children and adults and facilities for individuals to repair their own bikes. Volunteers have the
opportunity to learn about bike repair by helping to fix bikes donated to Recycle Cycles.
Location: 43 Queen Street South
Times: Thursdays 1:00pm - 4:00pm and Fridays 11:00am - 2:00pm.

Computer Recycling gives computers a second life, providing people with access to affordable
computers. Volunteers can learn about computer hardware by helping to repair donated computers.
Location: 58 Queen Street South (entrance on Charles St.)
Times: Tuesday-Friday from 10am-6pm, and Saturdays from 10am-4pm.

Sewing Space offers beginner and advanced sewing classes. Volunteers assist with learning the machines, working from patterns, and sewing techniques. Those with experience are invited to assist with classes.

Times: Mondays 9:00-12:00, Tuesdays 9:00-12:00, 12:30-3:30, Thursdays 12:30-3:30.

Worth a Second Look is a thrift shop that provides the community with very low-cost used
furniture and assorted houseware items. Volunteers are needed for:
- Customer Service / Cashier
Duties include:
- Handling cash/sales of merchandise
- Dealing with customer inquiries
- Product Pricing
Duties include:
- Determining pricing for new donations
- Arranging items on store shelves
- Driving
Duties include:
- Driving a truck to deliver furniture
- Lifting and loading heavy furniture on and off the truck
Volunteers must:
- have valid driver’s license

Paperkräf offers a way for you to volunteer while still doing something creative. We make
handmade paper, marble, and make other papercrafts to sell in the Queen Street Commons gift
shop, and for special orders. Papermaking lessons are provided.

The Working Centre's Job Search Resource Centre offers a range of supports to individuals seeking work
including employment counselling, job search workshops, and supports for new Canadians. Our Employment Resource Centre provides two key volunteer roles:
- Host
Duties Include:
- Assisting with reception and hospitality
- providing practical access to faxing, photocopying, and use of centre resources
- Computer Support
Duties Include:
- Assisting people using our public access computers in their use of the Internet, e-mail, word processing, etc.
- Helping people to link people to employment cousellors and other centre resources

Times: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9:00am to 4:00pm, and Wednesdays from 9:00am to 7:00pm.

BarterWorks is a local trading organization of individuals, businesses and community groups.
Members trade goods and services through the exchange of barter currency or a combination of
barter currency and Canadian dollars. Volunteers are welcomed to assist with various
administrative tasks.
