The 97 Victoria Integrated Community Resource project is a sustainable, small-scale, venture, revitalizing an 1880’s era factory warehouse in the
downtown that will provide upgraded facilities for St. John’s Kitchen, create employment, recycle used goods,
and increase access to community life.

97 Victoria St. N. is a 2-storey building with a total of 15,000 square feet of floor space that
has not been upgraded in over 40 years.
St. John’s Kitchen, serving meals since 1985, has grown tremendously in the past 5 years. This growth mostly
supports those who find their energy and resources depleted in their struggle to pay rent and feed themselves.
The increase includes other supports such as links to services, Job Café work opportunities, assistance with
housing, and health supports.
This increase, serving up to 350 meals each day, resulted in a search for a new location. The new facility on
the 2nd floor of 97 Victoria St. N. has developed the idea of an integrated community resource with more
floor space, a medical clinic, meeting area, showers and laundry facilities.
The integrated community of St. John’s Kitchen at 97 Victoria also includes:
- Worth a Second Look Furniture and Housewares Retail and Recycling Centre, located on the main floor,
will provide pick-up and collection services, a space to refurbish usable goods, settlement packages, opportunities for skill development and community
involvement.
- Job Café, also on the main floor, will serve to connect individuals to part-time work opportunities
in and around the community.
- Showers and Laundry for those who are homeless or not able to access such facilities.
