PERSONAL ASSISTANT TO CLIENT WITH WILLIAM'S SYNDROME
Looking for a kind, caring, energetic and committed individual to help a 21 year old youth with William's Syndrome become more independent in his own apartment and transition from high school into the Community in the Waterloo area.
Hours are 4 - 7pm Monday to Friday + Opportunity for Respite Weekends
Competitive salary and professional training is provided through Extend-A- Family program in Kitchener/Waterloo.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
HAVE FUN! Help client pursue things he is passionate about!
Help prepare and cook meals dinner Monday to Friday
Plan menus for weekly lunches and meals
Shop for food and household supplies for apartment
Assist with light housekeeping, including laundry
Provide companionship and understanding of daily challenges (cognitive)
Assist with exercise program (s) in the community & at home
Coach in remembering personal hygiene routine
Assist with initiating and keeping friendships alive
Take client out in community Chapters, Rec. centre, mall for social skills training and Butterfly Conservatory (volunteer position)
Practice fire drills for safety in the home
Transit/bus training Grand River Transit
Required skills/experience:
Minimum High School diploma
Training in a related field or a student in training
Strong communication skills (for encouragement, redirecting)
Reliable and mature patience/persistence required with redirecting client to focus on completing tasks
Assets:
Speaking another language other than English
Interest in music, theatre, reading and travel
Interest in other cultures/traditions/cooking
First Aid and CPR training (can provide training if required)
Police Check Vulnerable sector
