FUNCTION: The incumbent is responsible to provide leadership and direction regarding both internal and external communications plans and strategies for the YMCA. Also, to provide assistance to all YMCA staff with respect to communications needs. The incumbent is also responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of the Communications Strategy to position the YMCA. Note: Scope includes Cambridge and KW YMCA  
 
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:  
# External Communications include: Coordinating and initiating as required Press Releases and Public Service Announcements.  
# To develop and manage communication strategies of new projects/initiatives and also those with respect to the strategic plan.  
# Develop, update and maintain a Corporate display that supports and reflects all areas of the YMCA for the purpose of educating the community about the YMCA.  
# Develop external positioning strategies that positions the YMCA as a leading charity that Builds Strong Kids, Strong Families, Strong Communities and to ensure alignment with relevant positioning statement as adopted with strategic planning cycles.  
# Manages and implements the Communications Strategy in consultation with the CEO and Strategic Leadership Team.  
# To research the outcomes of the Ys projects/initiatives that measures the impact of the YMCA to communities and individuals.  
# To ensure case for support within the community aligns with Association positioning outcomes.  
# Advise service area Managers on selecting advertising and media options and assist with message development.  
# Determine the need, content, location and size for external YMCA site signage.  
# Determine optimal content for Association newsletters and Annual Reports and coordinate production and distribution.  
# Gather and coordinate information from various service areas/members as required.  
# Develop, implement and oversee communication guidelines applicable to all Service Areas. Regularly review guidelines to keep them current as the Association changes.  
# Coordinate production, review/monitor all internal and external print material to ensure adherence to Association Communication Guidelines.  
# To participate on staff/board work groups that relates to the strategic plan, specifically implementation, monitoring and reporting of project initiatives.  
# Develop, maintain and promote the YMCAs Association website and intranet. Train support staff and provide statistical reports to Leadership team and Board of Directors.  
# Assist and provide framework for Service areas to develop individual communication plans.  
# Create Communication Plan 3 times a year, maximizing the information provided to avoid conflicts, better understand what is going on in each area as well as timing.  
# Develop an annual financial plan for the area of Communication in cooperation with Support Services. Monitor progress and ensure adherence to plan.  
# Attend workshops, trainings, conferences and staff meetings as required.  
# Assumes other duties as assigned.  
 
QUALIFICATIONS:  
# Minimum University Degree in Business Communications.  
# Knowledge of graphic design, strong writing and presentation skills.  
# Excellent oral and written communication skills.  
# Acceptable Police Check  
# 5-6 years of experience in the Communication, Business/Organizational Development field preferred.
