Do you need help with casual work?
Do you have tasks such as:
- Cleaning a back alley?
- Sweeping a parking lot?
- Shipping/receiving tasks that require extra help for a short period?
- Clean-up jobs in a basement or store-room?
- Weekly or daily help with flower beds or landscaping?
The Job Café will:
- Meet/talk with you to arrange details and establish a rate of pay for the job
- Arrange for workers to complete the work
- Provide initial support if required to get the job started
- Offer any mediation or problem-solving as required
- Follow up to ensure you are satisfied with the job
As the employer you will:
- Ensure that the workers meet your expectations before the job begins
- Be responsible for supervision and guidance of the individual - they are working for you
- Provide the tools and workspace necessary for the job to be completed
- Pay the individuals at the agreed upon rate
It is preferable to pay cash upon completion of the work.
Do you need help with snow shoveling?
During the winter months we offer a snow shoveling service - we match homeowners
with people looking for casual labour. This is an informal matching service - homeowners meet the person and make specific plans once the person
arrives at their home. We recommend a $10 an hour payment. The Working Centre offers mediation and problem-solving assistance as required.
Downtown Clean-up
In cooperation with the Kitchener
Downtown Business Association and the
City of Kitchener, The Working Centre hosts a downtown clean-up project. Individuals can earn up to $150/month by working as part of a
clean-up crew throughout downtown Kitchener. The Job Cafe also assists at events and activities in the downtown, doing graffiti clean-up and
setting up Christmas trees.
