The Working Centre, Conestoga College and Lutherwood are hosting an Older Workers Forum - an event we are organizing to help our elected officials and other local leaders understand the importance of the issues faced by older workers - November 13 from 4-6 p.m. at St. John's Kitchen, 97 Victoria St. N., Kitchener.

At The Working Centre, Conestoga College, and Lutherwood we have been listening to, and supporting, these workers for a number of years, particularly through the Targeted Initiative for Older Workers Program.  As this program draws to a close, we are creating this opportunity for workers to feel that their voice is being heard by those who make/influence decisions.

Maureen Brosnahan from CBC Radio will be the key-note speaker (Maureen visited our TIOW groups in June of this year and interviewed people about the challenges they are facing - she will be airing this show on Older Workers on CBC radio on Sunday Morning, a CBC radio show, on November 3, 2013).

The event will include the following components:

  • Key-note address from Maureen Brosnahan
  • Small table discussions - local politicians/elected officials will sit together with older workers in small table discussions, where each person will offer a 2 minute summary or statement.  The role of the "listeners" is to receive and acknowledge the statements of each person at the table.
  • Panel - John Milloy, MPP, Stephen Woodworth, MP, and Catherine Fife, MPP will receive 6-8 pre-prepared statement/questions from the floor, and will close with a statement about Older Workers.

We are hoping that you can come out to this event.
