Essential Skills Technical English Curriculum for Health Care Professionals Starting Soon

- Designed for people who have achieved a CLB Level 8
- Modular based design helps you to focus on specific workplace and enhanced level English language skills
- Course will help you to achieve up to CLB Level 9
- Training will include cultural understanding, listening, speaking, writing and reading skills, grammar and vocabulary skills, and pronunciation
- Offered on a modular basis, evenings and weekends to accommodate a full-time work schedule
- Designed to assist with professional communication skills, including supervising others, making presentations, etc.
Modules may include:
- Developing patient/client relationships: Expressing attitudes, consultations, describing health symptoms, giving bad news, creating a bond with patients, dealing with an upset patient
- Conflict Management/Problem Solving: Resolving conflicts, making proactive complaints, giving opinions and recommendations
- Meetings: Virtual meetings, making proposals, taking minutes, developing consensus, interrupting, paraphrasing
- Medical Terminology: Advanced level terminology and pronunciation
- Transferring Information: reading labels, maps, notes, medical files, patient charts, giving instruction, following verbal communication, sending health care related messages in short notes, responding to conflict in writing.
- Communicating with Supervisors/Managers: Verbal and non-verbal communication, assertive vs. aggressive, interrupting, asking for feedback, building relationships, dealing with difficult people
- Understanding Individual Differences: Taking into account individual differences, developing insight into how you differ from others, responding to differences
- Career Management Employment: Assessing job performance, reviewing successes, planning for the future, changing careers, identifying career enhancing skills
- Workplace Ethics: Using ethical considerations to make decisions, evaluation information, asking for advice, seeking and justifying solutions
