Queens Greens Community Garden

Located at the corner of Queen and Mill streets, in Kitchener, the Queens Green Community Garden is one of over 35 community gardens planted throughout the region, that are part of the Waterloo Region Community Garden Network. Queens Greens is part of an initiative to recover idle land such as backyards or vacant lots, and to transform them into productive, beautiful, community-shared space. Access to land, building community, and the recognition of the importance of fresh, organic food are the driving interests in the creation of gardens like this one.

Queens Greens was started in 1997, and currently has 22 plots. Some highlights of the garden include natural landscaping using native plants, berry bushes, raised beds, the artwork of Andy Macpherson on the water tank, and the newly established Community Bake Oven.

Garden plots generally cost $20 for the year, with $10 refundable upon garden clean-up at the end of the season. To read a complete version of the Community Gardener Agreement Form click here.

The Urban Agriculture Project of The Working Centre provides individuals and groups with the tools they need to produce food in an urban setting. The project does this by supporting and initiating urban food producing projects.
