Join Us as a Member

Membership in The Commons Market offers you the opportunity to

  • Receive fresh food direct from local growers and producers including fruits, vegetables & herbs, meats from Traditional Foods, bread from Golden Hearth, cheese from Millbank Cheeses, and wholesale items through Ebytown Food Coop
  • Support local farmers by ordering directly online every week
  • Enjoy celebrating local food in a creative community setting

Membership costs $10 per year and requires a deposit of $40.00. This deposit will be used to pay for items that are not picked up on Market Days or will be refunded when you close your membership. (No interest will be paid on the deposit amount – as a non-profit organization we are trying to keep our administrative work low).

You can enter your information on-line, but before you place your first order, we would like to have a conversation with you – either in person, by email or by phone. If you are registering as a new member over the weekend and would like to place an order for the coming Wednesday, send us an email that tells us how to contact you on Monday morning, and what items you would like to order. We will try to accommodate your first order.

Our overall goal is to bridge the divide between growers and buyers and to explore healthy, local food options. We welcome those who are join for the creative shopping options, but we encourage members to get involved with the growers, to learn who they are and support the hands on work of the market day. Come out and join us as we pick and pack orders, meet the farmers and others interested in knowing where their food comes from.

Placing an Order

All items that are available for the week will be posted on the website by Friday at noon. That is when you can begin placing your order. Over the weekend, you can place an order or modify your order at any time. By Monday at noon your order becomes final. Once your order is final, it is expected that you will pay for and pick up your order at the Wednesday Market Days.

If You Are Having Problems Placing An Order

We are not available over the weekend but are around on Friday afternoons and Monday mornings. Give us a call at 519-743-1151 x130 if you have questions or would like some assistance. You are also welcome to send your order by email if your online account is not working. All orders must be placed between Friday noon and Monday noon - unfortunately, we can’t place orders outside of this window. The Working Centre offers public access computers on weekdays for those who do not have a home computer.

Produce Waiting List

The growers let us know on Friday what will be available on Wednesday but more produce may ripen than they predict. Because of this, we may have more produce available than is listed. When you order, if an item shows a quantity of zero, you will be offered an option to send us an email detailing what you would like to order. Growers will check this Waiting List and try to fill your order. When placing a Waiting List order, it is with the assumption that your order will be filled. You will be responsible for paying for this order if the farmer provides it.

Picking Up and Paying for Your Order

Your order will be available for pickup on Wednesdays from 4:00pm-7:00pm at the Queen Street Commons Café, 43 Queen Street South, Kitchener. Come out to meet other members, gather your order together and enjoy the Market. Payment will be accepted preferably in cash or cheque (we can accept debit and credit card but we face additional charges for this).

What Happens If You Don’t Pick Up Your Order

If you are unable to come and pickup your order, you will still be responsible for paying for it. The cost for your order will be deducted from your membership deposit. If your deposit goes down to zero, you will not be able to place another order until we receive full payment. Your food will not go to waste, and it will be donated to The Working Centre’s kitchens or to individuals living on a limited income. Unfortunately, we do not have the facilities to store orders over night.
